New bill to aid New Yorkers with disaster insurance
A new bill to assist New Yorkers with insurance issues after natural disasters has passed the State Senate. Sponsored by State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, it aims to create an insurance liaison on the Disaster Preparedness Commission. The bill previously passed both chambers last year but was vetoed by Governor Kathy Hochul. She cited concerns about the appropriateness of adding a non-governmental representative to the commission. The bill has not yet passed in the Assembly this year. The governor's office has not indicated whether she will veto it again if it passes.
