A new bridge will be built over the Gomti river in Lucknow. This project will help about 500,000 residents in Gaughat, Faizullaganj, and nearby areas. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved it, and the construction will be handled by the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation (UPSBC). The estimated cost of the bridge is Rs 54 crore. For this financial year, Rs 15 crore has already been set aside. Currently, people use a temporary pontoon bridge to cross the river. This bridge only operates for 8 months each year, as it is closed during the monsoon season due to high water levels. Residents must take a longer 10-kilometer detour when the pontoon bridge is closed. The new bridge will be two lanes and about 350 meters long. Construction is expected to start within four months. It aims to provide reliable travel for residents of several local areas, including Daulatganj and Kashi Vihar on one side, and Sitapur Road and Bharat Nagar on the other. A UPSBC official said the new bridge will solve long-standing commuting issues. It will be able to accommodate both cars and motorcycles, reducing travel time for many. To move forward with the project, authorities are working quickly to handle land acquisition and remove any obstacles in the way. The project is also expected to support urban development in the area, with land available for sale in four sectors.
