New Brunswick woman seeks private ADHD medication refills
A woman in New Brunswick is turning to private services for her ADHD medication because she cannot find a family doctor. Judy Carter's family doctor retired last April. Since then, she has been looking for a new doctor and is now on a waiting list. Carter has been taking Vyvanse for her ADHD for years. However, her pharmacy informed her that it cannot refill her prescription due to restrictions on controlled substances. She has tried several local walk-in clinics, but they told her they cannot help with prescribing her medication. Her refills will run out in mid-May. The province's health service, NB Health Link, has a long wait list of over 16,000 people in the Moncton area. With limited options available, Carter has decided to seek help from the private sector. She plans to use a service called BeyondADHD, but it is expensive. Carter expects to pay over $200 for an initial assessment and about $80 for each follow-up appointment. She feels frustrated and disappointed with the healthcare system's support. New Brunswick's Department of Health has not yet commented on her situation.
