New combat sport BKFC Ice Wars to launch in June

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) is launching a new combat sports league called BKFC Ice Wars. This new league will feature ice hockey-style fighting, and it is part-owned by UFC fighter Conor McGregor. The announcement was made this week as BKFC expands its offerings in the combat sports market. The first event, named 'Battle of the Borders,' is scheduled for June. It will include fighters from the United States and Canada. Traditionally, fights can break out during ice hockey games, but this new league will officially combine these elements with sanctioned prize fighting. David Feldman, the president of BKFC, praised the Ice Wars team for their exciting work in building the league. He said the partnership aligns with BKFC's goal of presenting raw, high-energy combat sports to fans. Fights will be scored based on the effectiveness of the strikes landed, aggressiveness, and control of the fighting area. The bouts will last for three to five rounds of 90 seconds each, with one-minute breaks in between. Two referees and three judges will oversee the fights, which will feature fighters wearing hockey gear and MMA gloves. Weight classes for the fights will include Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, Middleweight, and Lightweight. This new sport aims to establish its own rules and scoring criteria, making it distinct from other combat leagues.
