New commission for scheduled castes to be established soon
The government of Jharkhand announced on Saturday that it will create a new state commission for scheduled castes within a month. Minister Chamra Linda made this announcement during a discussion in the state assembly. Linda explained that the delay in forming the commission was due to the need to update its regulations. The law department has approved the changes, but they are still awaiting approvals from other departments. He encouraged lawmakers to provide suggestions to improve these regulations. Linda pointed out that the current rules lack clarity on what happens to unspent funds. He noted that there is currently around 2.5 crore rupees that might go unused unless clear directions are established. BJP MLA Manju Kumari questioned whether there were any regulations during the previous BJP government when the commission was active. Another BJP MLA, Roshanlal Choudhary, raised concerns that other important commissions related to human rights and women’s issues are also currently vacant.
