New Delhi is set to develop its largest park, the Mayur Nature Park, along the Yamuna riverbank. The project covers 371 hectares and is situated across from Mayur Vihar. It is part of a larger plan that includes ten initiatives along a 22-kilometer stretch of the river. Work on Mayur Nature Park has begun, with a budget of Rs 136.8 crore. The park is expected to be completed by October 2026. The site will also be impacted by the construction of the Barapullah Phase III flyover and the Delhi Metro's Pink Line. The park will feature different areas designed for people of all ages, including children and nature lovers. Planned facilities include open areas, water features, cycling paths, and spots for yoga and meditation. There will also be zones for bird watching and a marketplace with food stalls and organic products. To enhance the natural environment, the project includes a detailed planting plan that divides the area into six zones, such as grassland, forest, and wetland. This diversity aims to restore the riverfront and support local wildlife. The idea for restoring the Yamuna riverfront was first conceived in 2015. The National Green Tribunal's Yamuna Monitoring Committee oversaw the riverfront work, which began in 2017 and concluded its final report in January 2021.
