New director aims to revitalize El Cajon downtown
Marco Li Mandri, president of New City America, has been appointed executive director of Downtown El Cajon Business Partners. He aims to revitalize downtown El Cajon by increasing residential units and sit-down restaurants, similar to his work in San Diego's Little Italy. Li Mandri plans to change the DECBP's IRS classification to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which could boost its budget from $525,000 to $700,000. This funding will support events and improvements in the area, addressing stagnant property values. He envisions a vibrant downtown with mixed-use buildings and more activities. Li Mandri intends to collaborate with landlords and developers to attract new restaurants and create a lively community hub for El Cajon and surrounding areas.
