New England Patriots release four players for roster rebuild
The New England Patriots have recently released four players as they continue to reshape their roster. The players let go include linebackers Curtis Jacobs and Andrew Parker Jr. and offensive linemen Caleb Jones and Lecitus Smith. This move is part of the team's efforts to rebuild after a difficult season. Curtis Jacobs was a noteworthy release, having played in nine games last year. He joined the Patriots as an undrafted rookie from Penn State. Jacobs contributed on both defense and special teams, but he was cut as the team looks to make changes. Andrew Parker Jr. also leaves the team after joining the Patriots’ practice squad last December. He had previously played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and signed a futures contract in January. However, he didn't secure a spot on the final roster. Caleb Jones, an offensive tackle from Indiana, spent time with the Green Bay Packers before joining the Patriots. Despite signing a futures contract in January, he was released as the team seeks to improve its offensive line. Lecitus Smith, a sixth-round draft pick in 2022, also was let go. He played in eight games last season, starting one. These staff changes mark a significant shift for the Patriots under their new leadership as they aim for a better future. More roster changes are likely in the coming weeks.
