New Hampshire Senate passes bail system overhaul bill
New Hampshire's Senate has passed a bill to change the bail system in the state. The vote took place on Thursday, and the bill received unanimous support. It will now go to the governor for approval. The new legislation focuses on people charged with serious violent crimes. Under the new rules, these individuals must appear before a judge to seek bail rather than going through a bail commissioner. State Senator Daryl Abbas highlighted the importance of this change, especially for violent felonies and sex crimes against children. Similar proposals to update the bail system had failed in previous years. However, this bill recently gained momentum, passing the House last week. Governor Kelly Ayotte is expected to sign the bill into law soon.
