New Ideogram 2.0a model offers surprising AI image results

A new AI image generation model called Ideogram 2.0a has been released, promising faster and cheaper image creation. Despite competition from well-known companies like Midjourney and Google, Ideogram has gained recognition for producing high-quality images that follow prompts accurately. To test the new model, I created five images based on various prompts related to people, nature, places, portraits, and design. Each generation cost credits and produced four sample images to choose from. For the first test, I requested an image of a family birthday party in a garden. While the selected image had good prompt adherence, it still had noticeable glitches. Next, I asked for a photo of four elephants on the savanna. This prompt was tough, as the AI struggled to create realistic elephants. After many attempts, I received images where the animals looked somewhat similar. In the test for a street photograph in Paris, I generated images that included a text element. Despite this, many images had glitches or unnatural poses, reflecting the challenges of generating accurate images with text. The portrait task involved creating an image of an elderly fisherman. This test went better, with several decent images produced, suggesting that singular subjects are easier for the model to handle. For the final test on luxury chocolates, the generated images were close to what I wanted, but the text often turned meaningless. This issue was a recurring theme across many generations. Overall, I was disappointed with the new model's image quality. It appears Ideogram prioritized speed and cost over fidelity. However, I found a useful editing tool within the platform that allows for significant customization, enhancing the generated images. This feature shows potential, as it can help improve images significantly. The testing revealed the model's limitations, but it also highlighted opportunities for creative enhancement.
