New Jersey mother arrested for shocking child with collar
A mother in New Jersey has been arrested for child abuse after allegedly making her child wear a dog shock collar. Kimberly Cruz-Feliciano, 30, from Cape May, was taken into custody along with her mother, Sonia Feliciano, 59. The child showed up at school with visible injuries on March 17, prompting school officials to contact authorities. Investigators found that the injuries were caused by a shock collar that belonged to the family's deceased dog. Reports indicate that the child wore the collar at all times while at home. The child told police that the collar was regularly charged, even after the dog had passed away, and was stored in a bedroom with other dog belongings. According to the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office, the child was threatened by the mother if they disclosed the abuse. The police and the Special Victims Unit conducted a thorough investigation, leading to both arrests. Cruz-Feliciano faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and witness tampering. She is currently held at Cape May County Correctional Center until her court hearing. Her mother, Sonia, has been charged with tampering with evidence and hindering. She has since been released from custody. Neighbors expressed their shock over the situation, stating it is heartbreaking to hear about such abuse happening in their community.
