New Jersey sees over 3,000 job cuts in 2025
In the first quarter of 2025, New Jersey has seen more than 3,000 layoffs announced by local employers. This number is higher than the same period in 2024. According to state WARN notices, 18 companies reported a total of 1,753 layoffs from January to March last year. Leading the layoff numbers is Novartis. The pharmaceutical company plans to cut 427 jobs at its East Hanover site. This follows previous layoffs that were announced at the end of 2024. Logistics company Geodis is also making significant cuts. They plan to close a facility in Monroe Township, resulting in 426 layoffs. Meanwhile, Walmart has announced that it will eliminate 481 corporate positions at its office in Hoboken. Employees may have the option to relocate out of state for work. Another notable layoff is from Henry Repeating Arms, a gun manufacturer that is moving operations out of New Jersey to Wisconsin. The company's CEO, Anthony Imperato, stated that the move centralizes their business in one location. Overall, the first quarter of 2025 has already shown a concerning trend in job cuts across New Jersey's major companies.
