Many families in the Alle-Kiski Valley attended the Dr. Seuss Family Engagement Night at the All Kids Are Special Childcare and Learning Center in New Kensington. This event was part of the Read Across America celebration, held on March 20. Children, along with their parents, enjoyed various games inspired by Dr. Seuss’s beloved books. Activities included pinning a tie on “The Cat in the Hat,” a ball toss at the cat’s hat, a stacking game based on “Yertle the Turtle,” and a counting game using “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.” Center director Cheryl Rometo-Gartley reported that 186 people, including kids and adults, signed up for the event. Around 15 staff members were present to run the games. Rometo-Gartley noted it was the largest turnout in over ten years. Families received a checklist of the games when they arrived. Those who completed all the activities entered a raffle for gift baskets. Children also got paper hats with their names and won prizes from the games. The center served popcorn and drinks to enhance the fun.
