New Kensington man arrested for gun threats at IUPatty's
A man from New Kensington was arrested during the IUPatty's student celebration for making threats and carrying a gun. Police say Adisun Lee Jackson, 22, had a gun visible in his waistband during an argument at a home on South Seventh Street. He does not attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Jackson reportedly made gestures mimicking shooting. Luckily, no one was hurt. Police took his gun and charged him with terroristic threats, simple assault, and criminal trespass. He is currently in jail awaiting a court hearing. IUPatty's is an unofficial event organized by students, often leading to increased police presence in the area. State police announced they would increase traffic and DUI checks during this time. Earlier this weekend, borough police arrested two IUP students for noise violations and five non-students for various offenses. One woman was charged for attacking officers while being arrested for public intoxication. IUPatty's has a troubled history. In 2023, a floor collapse at a party injured twelve people. Past events have seen serious incidents, including shootings and large brawls involving many non-students.
