A new khadi weaving unit was opened at the Khadi Centre in Mannancherry, Alappuzha district, on Sunday. The unit was inaugurated by Khadi Board vice chairman P. Jayarajan. This unit is part of a proposal from District Panchayat member R. Riyas. It follows the Khadi Centre's history as a spinning unit established 40 years ago. The first phase includes seven installed looms. Jayarajan noted that Kerala is unique in providing minimum wages for khadi workers. He also mentioned the potential benefits of introducing khadi uniforms in schools.
