New laser technology achieves one million pulses per second
Researchers have created a new laser system using a liquid-state vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) that features continuously flowing quantum dots. This design allows for better heat management compared to traditional fixed quantum dots. The new laser can emit blue, red, and green light, achieving one million pulses per second. This marks a significant improvement over previous systems that struggled with heat and short burst outputs. The flowing quantum dots are replaced quickly as heat builds up, enhancing the laser's performance and enabling continuous operation. This innovation addresses limitations faced by earlier laser technologies.
