New pizza restaurant opens in downtown Decatur
Decatur is seeing new business growth as the weather warms up. The city's Director of Development, Dane Shaw, reported on several new projects during a recent Planning Commission meeting. These include a pizza restaurant, a strip mall, and a grocery store. The pizza restaurant, called Pie Factory, will be built by a group known as 602 Boys LLC. It will be a two-story building covering 4,000 square feet at 602 Bank St. N.E. The plans show both indoor and outdoor seating. Shaw believes this restaurant will be a fantastic addition to downtown Decatur. The Pie Factory is part of a broader chain, with existing locations in places like Florence and Muscle Shoals. The menu will offer various pizza styles, wings, salads, and desserts. The site is in a business district that doesn't require many parking spaces, and nearby lots will provide plenty of room for customers. In addition to the pizza place, Zaragoza's Supermarket plans to move to a larger location at 1913 Central Parkway S.W. This new store will be nearly 27,000 square feet with 108 parking spaces. Another project involves Ali Alsamawi, who is developing a small three-store space on Old Moulton Road. This development will replace a car wash that was recently demolished. The Planning Commission also discussed a temporary stop on new annexations while preparing for the upcoming municipal election. A recommendation was made to annex 6.11 acres for future business use.
