New road construction underway in Tauranga, NZ

A new road is being constructed off State Highway 29 in Tauranga, replacing a former Caltex Service Station that closed in May 2024. The land was requisitioned by NZTA Waka Kotahi for the Tauriko West community development. NZTA announced significant progress on the Tauriko Village section of the project. Ongoing work includes earthworks, pavement, and utilities for the new northern access road. Additionally, a car park for the new Tauriko School and Playcentre is also under construction as part of the enabling works.
