The goal is to help identify if someone might be a problem gambler. Owners of gaming venues with slot machines are concerned about these rules. They argue the regulations are hard to follow and can create dangerous situations. The current rules were established by the previous government to promote harm minimization. Tony Crosbie, a venue owner and board member of the Gaming Machine Association, said monitoring ATM activity is difficult. He believes small withdrawals can accidentally trigger the intervention requirement. Talking to customers about gambling issues after minor withdrawals often leads to confusion and could upset them instead of helping.
