New Star Trek comic features cute robot sidekick

The crew of the Enterprise in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" will soon have a new robotic friend. IDW Publishing is set to release a comic series titled "The Seeds of Destruction" in August 2025. This limited series will consist of five issues and will follow the familiar characters on a dangerous mission to an icy planet filled with hidden dangers. A standout feature of the series is the introduction of D6, a cute robot sidekick. D6 will join First Officer Una Chin-Riley, Science Officer Spock, Security Officer La’An Noonien-Singh, and Nurse Christine Chapel on their adventure. This new character is expected to bring a fresh energy to the overall story. Robbie Thompson, who is currently involved in the show's fourth season, will write the series. He expressed his excitement about working on this project, calling it a dream come true. Artist Travis Mercer also shared his enthusiasm, hinting that the stories will dive into more "cosmic horrors" that make "Strange New Worlds" even stranger. This comic series will be part of a broader release of Star Trek comics from IDW. Also launching are "Star Trek: Red Shirts" in July 2025 and "Star Trek: Voyager – Homecoming" in September 2025. These new stories aim to celebrate the rich history of Star Trek and explore new themes. The inclusion of D6 continues a long-standing tradition in Star Trek of featuring memorable artificial characters. These companions often add humor and insight to the series, and D6 is expected to do the same as the crew faces challenges on their icy mission.
