New Syrian takeaway TAJ opens on Berry Street
A new Syrian takeaway is set to open on Berry Street in the city center. The restaurant, named TAJ, will be located between a karaoke bar and a nail spa. Renovations are currently in progress, and a sign in the window says it will open soon. This will be the second TAJ restaurant, adding to the one already on Lodge Lane. The menu will feature popular Syrian street food, including shawarma platters with rice or chips, wraps, and burgers. Customers can also enjoy traditional dishes like jubna and lahm bi ajeen. Berry Street has seen a surge in new eateries over the past year, becoming a lively dining destination. In recent months, several other new businesses have opened on Berry Street. A Japanese pancake shop called Fluffy Fluffy started serving its unique souffle pancakes in February 2024. Then, the Hi Kitty burger and dessert takeaway opened in June, joining a growing list of popular businesses in the area. Last November, two more shops opened: Yummi Thai cafe and Derek's coffee and sandwiches. The co-founder of Derek's shared that their opening day exceeded expectations, with over 100 customers waiting in line. The success of their business has been supported by the community. Also opening on Berry Street last year was the VOX karaoke cocktail bar, which offers a luxury karaoke experience. The Berry Nail Salon opened in January this year, adding to the area's vibrant mix of long-standing venues like Botan Kebab and Chamber 36.
