New vintage collection shifts focus from 1990s nostalgia
Etéreo Vintage and One Of have teamed up to launch a new collection of ten evening wear pieces inspired by vintage fashion. The collection features reimagined garments from the early 20th century, showcasing work by renowned designers like Jeanne Lanvin and Madame Grès. The collaboration began when Etéreo’s Zabrina Estrada and One Of’s Patricia Voto were neighbors in New York. They share a passion for slow fashion and the art of upcycling. They focused on transforming antique dresses that were in damaged condition into modern looks. Among the collection highlights is a silk-wool kimono originally from the 1920s. Once in fragments, Voto restored it using coral beads to create a striking jacket. Another piece, an ivory Liberty & Co. dress from the 1920s, underwent intensive care to stabilize its fragile fabric, resulting in a fresh evening look. Voto's creativity shines through as she reinterprets older designs, such as turning a delicate 1930s dress into a three-piece set with a floor-length skirt and bolero. The duo aimed to blend old and new, making it hard to distinguish where one ends and the other begins. The collection retains a sense of comfort and ease, reflecting fashion trends from a century ago. Voto enjoys working with one-of-a-kind materials, finding constraints in design to be creatively stimulating. With this new collection, they aim to breathe new life into these vintage pieces, allowing them to shine once more in a fast-paced fashion world.
