New York City to celebrate New York Liberty with ticker tape parade
New York City will hold its first ticker tape parade for a local sports team in 12 years on Thursday, celebrating the New York Liberty. The parade will start at Battery Park at 10 a.m. and proceed up Broadway to City Hall. After the parade, there will be a celebration at City Hall, followed by another event at the Barclays Center that evening. Commuters should expect street and subway closures, along with bus detours in Lower Manhattan. This parade marks the first since 2012, when the New York Giants were honored after their Super Bowl win. Ticker tape parades have a long history in the city, dating back to the dedication of the Statue of Liberty in 1886.
