New York-style breakfast restaurant opens in Spartanburg

A new restaurant called Sorellas Brunch and Breakfast has opened near downtown Spartanburg. It is located on the second floor of a shopping center at 464 E. Main St. The restaurant offers a New York-style breakfast and brunch experience. Sorellas opened in early March and is co-owned by Segundo Gualpa, who also runs the Italian restaurant Fratello’s on the Eastside. Segundo has a long history in Spartanburg’s dining scene. His friend Manny Mizhquiri, who has experience in the New York restaurant industry, moved to Spartanburg to help open Sorellas. The restaurant is still in its early days, and the owners are experimenting with new dishes. Jessica Gualpa, Segundo's daughter and temporary manager, indicated that they are seeking feedback from customers to refine their menu. Sorellas features a full bar, which sets it apart from other local breakfast spots. The menu includes breakfast favorites like homemade pastries, various pancakes, and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. The owners aim to provide the New Yorker experience of enjoying a large breakfast or light bites with a cocktail. With Spartanburg's rapid growth, the Gualpas see an opportunity to offer more dining options. "We want to offer more, another lunch, brunch, breakfast option," said Jessica Gualpa. Sorellas is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on weekends from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. They plan to expand dining hours in the future. The owners hope to become a favorite spot for local diners.
