New York Sun gains subscriptions after Trump's endorsement
A struggling newspaper, The New York Sun, is seeing a revival after receiving praise from former President Donald Trump. Once a major competitor to the New York Times, the newspaper nearly shut down before Dovid Efune took over four years ago and shifted its editorial focus to the right. Efune said the attention from Trump has significantly helped increase subscriptions. Trump's praise has included reposting articles from The Sun on his social media platform and even sending handwritten notes to the writers. The newspaper now boasts about 1 million monthly page views and over 600,000 unique viewers. Financially, The New York Sun has turned a profit thanks to an influx of paid subscribers. Efune believes that emphasizing principles over politics has strengthened the paper's appeal. Despite being more aligned with Trump, he insists that the newspaper maintains its independence on various issues. The publication has also expanded its coverage beyond local news to include politics in Washington and international stories. Founded in 1833 as one of the first penny papers, The New York Sun has had a tumultuous history but aims to regain its former prominence under Efune's leadership.
