New York thermometer factory owner sentenced to probation for mercury exposure to workers
The owner of Kessler Thermometer Corp. in New York, Robert Peyser, has been sentenced to three years of probation for exposing workers to dangerous levels of mercury. This follows a spill at the factory in August 2022. Peyser and his company pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment after four employees were diagnosed with mercury poisoning. One worker required a pacemaker, while another still needs an oxygen tank. In addition to probation, Kessler Thermometer Corp. was fined $75,000 and assessed $97,000 for safety violations. Peyser must comply with all health and safety regulations moving forward.
