New zoo and aquarium projects launching globally in 2025
In 2025, many new zoos and aquariums will open around the world. These projects focus on conservation, education, and more engaging experiences for visitors. New designs are meant to improve animal habitats and welfare while inspiring the next generation of conservationists. Noteworthy expansions and attractions are expected to change how people interact with wildlife. In Germany, Zoo Frankfurt is starting a major redevelopment. This new plan includes different biomes like savannas and rainforests. Visitors will have elevated walkways for a closer look at animals. A glass tunnel under the hippo pool will also be a highlight. The zoo aims to accommodate its 800,000 annual visitors with playgrounds and dining options. Chile's Buin Zoo is set for a big transformation into a biopark, thanks to the same design firm involved in Zoo Frankfurt. In Vienna, construction for the Schönbrunn Conservation Aquarium will begin, expected to open in 2028. This will be Austria's largest aquarium, showcasing endangered habitats. In Tokyo, Sea Life Park plans a renewal project to update its aging facilities, including new exhibits and interactive elements. In the UK, Colchester Zoo is unveiling a multimillion-pound lion habitat, while St Andrews Aquarium announces major growth plans for 2025. In the United States, Louisville Zoo will begin its $30 million Kentucky Trails project, featuring local wildlife. Seneca Park Zoo in New York will undergo a $100 million expansion with a new tropics exhibit. Additionally, Brevard Zoo is building a new aquarium at Port Canaveral, while Jacksonville Zoo will reveal a new Manatee River habitat soon.
