NEXON reveals Season 3 update plans for The First Descendant
NEXON held an important session at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025, focusing on their game, The First Descendant. The session highlighted the challenges the team faced since the game's release and the steps taken to improve it. Beomjun Lee, the Executive Producer, shared insights from their experience of running The First Descendant as a live service game. He discussed how the team adjusted their approach after receiving a critical score of 57 on Metacritic. The presentation also teased an upcoming mega update for Season 3, which is set to make a significant impact on the game. The upcoming update, called Season 3: The Breakthrough, is planned for summer. It will introduce a larger game space, new vehicles, and exciting battles against powerful enemies, along with a new lounge area for players. Recent updates showed promising results for the game, notably with Season 2, Episode 2 named 'Beyond The Void.' The update led to a rise in player engagement, boosting the number of new players by 18% and daily active users by 25%. The game also achieved a peak of 23,000 concurrent users on Steam. Players have responded positively to the game's storytelling and character development. A new character, Serena, along with another character, Gley, sparked interest and helped attract new users. Features like the new field "Sigma Sector" and the "Arche Tuning System" have kept players engaged and eager to share their experiences. The First Descendant, launched in July 2024, is a cooperative action RPG where players take on the role of Descendants fighting against aliens. The game emphasizes teamwork and strategy in multiplayer boss battles and is known for its high-quality graphics from Unreal Engine 5. NEXON Korea, established in 1994, operates a wide range of online games.
