NGOs call for UN emergency session to investigate rights abuses in Lebanon conflict
A group of NGOs is urging the United Nations Human Rights Council to hold an emergency session to investigate abuses in the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon. The conflict has intensified since mid-September, resulting in over 3,000 deaths.
The NGOs, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, highlighted the urgent need for accountability, citing Israeli strikes on civilian areas. They expressed concern that the situation could mirror the violence seen in Gaza.
Lebanon's ambassador to the UN indicated that a session is possible but no decision has been made. The council requires support from one-third of its members, and Lebanon's stance may influence the outcome.
