NGOs call for UN rights council to investigate abuses in Lebanon conflict
A group of NGOs is urging the United Nations Human Rights Council to hold an emergency session to investigate abuses in the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon. This conflict has intensified since mid-September, with over 3,000 deaths reported.
The NGOs, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, highlighted the urgent need for accountability, citing Israeli strikes on civilian areas. They expressed concern that atrocities similar to those in Gaza could occur in Lebanon without investigations.
Lebanon's ambassador to the UN indicated that a session is possible, but no decision has been made. The council requires support from one-third of its members, and past discussions on Israel have been contentious.
