NH 183 project nearing final approval in Kerala
The development project for National Highway 183 is close to receiving final approval from the Standing Finance Committee, according to MP N.K. Premachandran. He shared this update after meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in New Delhi. The project, estimated to cost ₹1,993.28 crore, spans 54.37 kilometers from Kollam Bypass to Anjilumoodu. It has not seen significant development for 25 years. The MP noted that ongoing efforts have successfully brought the project to the committee for approval. On February 25, 2025, the consultancy responsible for creating the detailed project report submitted two packages that were approved by the internal finance division. These proposals are now with the Standing Finance Committee for review. The project aims to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and lower vehicle operating costs on the highway. It will also enhance local economic development through junction improvements. Key goals include connecting industrial and agricultural sectors, boosting tourism, and linking places of worship and tourist sites. The Union Minister mentioned that steps for the 3(A) notification are underway. Instructions have been given to convene the Standing Finance Committee meeting soon to finalize the project's approval. Additionally, developments for the road from Kollam High School Junction to Kadavoor NH 66 are being actively considered by the Ministry.
