NHB to assess preservation of Lee Kuan Yew's 38 Oxley Road home

The National Heritage Board (NHB) will study Lee Kuan Yew's house at 38 Oxley Road to determine if it should be preserved as a national monument. The assessment will focus on its historical, heritage, and architectural significance. A 2018 report had already recognized the site's importance but noted Lee's preference for demolition, while allowing for other options if privacy and refurbishment were ensured. Current owner Lee Hsien Yang applied to demolish the house on October 21. NHB stated that proceeding with demolition would limit the consideration of preservation options.
