NHRC requests report on former policeman's murder
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is looking for a report regarding the murder of an ex-policeman. In a separate discussion, Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi addressed the Assembly on the topic of educational policy in Tamil Nadu. He stated that the Chief Secretary did not agree to the establishment of the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) in the state. Poyyamozhi explained that a state-level committee led by the School Education Secretary has been formed. This committee will make recommendations, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create PM SHRI schools will be signed before the start of the 2024-25 academic year. The matter came up after AIADMK deputy leader R.B. Udhayakumar questioned a claim made by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He said the Chief Secretary had agreed to the proposal, but Poyyamozhi clarified that they have not accepted it. The Minister emphasized that Chief Minister's stance was firm. He mentioned that even if the Center offered ₹10,000 crore, they would not implement the three-language policy. He argued that this would negatively affect Tamil society. Poyyamozhi also highlighted that although English was designated as an associate official language until 1965, it has continued to be recognized. He concluded by saying that the upcoming announcement on the language policy by the Chief Minister will be beneficial for Tamil people.
