NHS hospital in London uses AI for skin cancer checks
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London is using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve skin cancer diagnosis. This method allows patients to receive results quickly, without needing a doctor visit. The hospital employs an iPhone equipped with a magnifying lens and a special app called Derm. This tool has an impressive 99.9 percent success rate. It analyzes images of suspicious moles taken by staff and provides results within five minutes. Nearly half of the patients tested receive good news and are discharged immediately. Those who may have cancer or need further examination are referred to a specialist for immediate action. This innovative approach has helped thousands of NHS patients get urgent checks. It also allows doctors to focus more on patients who require additional care. The hospital calls this a "new era" in cancer treatment.
