NIA charges four Khalistani operatives in Chandigarh grenade attack
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against four members of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) linked to a grenade attack in Chandigarh in September 2024. The accused include Harwinder Singh Sandhu, who is based in Pakistan, and Harpreet Singh, who is in the United States. The NIA's official statement reveals that the accused are charged under various laws, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The charges were presented to a Special NIA court in Chandigarh. Both Sandhu and Singh were the main planners of the attack, offering support and facilitating the operation. The grenade attack targeted a retired Punjab Police officer, who was believed to be in the house at the time. The NIA determined that Sandhu and Singh worked to instill fear in both law enforcement and the public as part of BKI's goals. They recruited local operatives, Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, who were directed to conduct surveillance on the target before the attack. The investigation is ongoing, and the NIA aims to find and dismantle the BKI network in India.
