Nick Mills resolves tax dispute, avoids company liquidation
Nick Mills, the owner of the Wellington Saints basketball team and a radio host, has resolved his tax debt with Inland Revenue. His hospitality businesses were at risk of liquidation, but the legal action against them has been stopped. The decision came from Associate High Court Judge Andrew Skelton, who stated that Inland Revenue's effort to liquidate five companies owned by Mills has been “discontinued.” Mills' lawyer, Mike Lennard, shared that his client had successfully settled the ongoing tax disputes. This outcome brings relief to the Wellington hospitality industry, according to Lennard. Mills' businesses include popular spots like Hummingbird, Los Banditos, Spruce Goose, and Wellington Sports Cafe. Inland Revenue was also pursuing Mills for unpaid taxes related to closed businesses, such as Siglo and Boston on Blair.
