Nightmares may indicate early Parkinson's signs in men
A study from the University of Birmingham suggests that frequent bad dreams and nightmares may be an early sign of Parkinson's disease. Older men who reported unsettling dreams were found to be twice as likely to receive a Parkinson's diagnosis later. This research indicates that changes in dream patterns could occur years before typical symptoms like tremors and stiffness appear. The study monitored 3,818 older men over 12 years, identifying 91 cases of Parkinson's. The findings, published in eClinicalMedicine, highlight the potential of using dream patterns as indicators for Parkinson's. Researchers plan to further investigate the biological links between dreams and neurodegenerative diseases.
