Nikhil Kamath becomes youngest donor on Hurun India Philanthropy List with Rs 120 crore donation
Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, is the youngest donor on the EdelGive-Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024. He donated Rs 120 crore through his Rainmatter Foundation, placing him and his brother Nitin at 15th among those donating over Rs 100 crore. Philanthropic donations in India rose by 55% over the past two years, totaling Rs 8,783 crore from 203 donors. Education was the top cause, with Rs 3,680 crore contributed, while the Kamath brothers also donated Rs 42 crore for environmental initiatives. The number of philanthropists donating over Rs 100 crore annually has increased tenfold, now totaling 18. Mumbai remains the leading city for philanthropy, with a notable rise in self-made donors, which grew by 43% this year.
