Nikita Nesterenko shines after Ducks' recall
The Anaheim Ducks have called up forward Nikita Nesterenko from the San Diego Gulls of the AHL. This decision was made on March 14, just before their game against the Nashville Predators. This move came after injuries sidelined forwards Ross Johnston and Sam Colangelo. Colangelo had previously been recalled and made a strong impression, scoring six points in eight games before getting injured. Now, Nesterenko has a chance to shine as well. This is his second recall this season. In an earlier stint in January, he played seven games and scored two points. Since returning to the Ducks, Nesterenko has had a good performance. In three games, he has scored two goals on four shots, averaging about 12.5 minutes on the ice. He even had time on the penalty kill during a recent game. Ducks coach Greg Cronin noted that Nesterenko has created good opportunities and needs to keep focusing on improving his offensive play. Before his most recent recall, Nesterenko struggled, scoring just 12 points in 29 games with the Gulls. However, after returning to the AHL, he found his rhythm, scoring 22 points in 19 games. His time with the Ducks has shown improvement in his game, particularly in his puck handling and ability to support his teammates. Nesterenko is aware of the urgency as the season progresses, treating each game like a playoff match. He aims to contribute to the team's offense, which has been challenging for the Ducks this season. With his recent performance, he may secure a more permanent spot in the team's lineup.
