Nilaya Anthology opens as Mumbai's luxury design hub
Nilaya Anthology has recently opened in Mumbai, showcasing itself as a significant interior design showroom. Spanning 100,000 square feet, it is a hub for decor enthusiasts, featuring 92 makers from India and around the globe. Pavitra Rajaram, design director of Asian Paints, likens Nilaya Anthology to major cultural institutions in the city. The space includes well-known Indian brands like Vikram Goyal Studio and Jaipur Rugs, alongside international designers from various continents. Nina Yasher, a notable design curator, brings a collection of vintage and contemporary furniture to the showroom. Architect Rooshad Shroff designed Nilaya Anthology with an emphasis on avoiding a mall-like experience. Instead, it resembles a museum with different rooms for various decor pieces, creating a unique shopping experience. Visitors can find everything from furnishings to art, making it a vibrant destination for those seeking design inspiration. Asian Paints aims for Nilaya to serve as a cultural catalyst and a community space for art and design experiences. Future plans include a coworking area for designers, a material library, and a cafe run by Indian Accent. Cultural events will also be held throughout the year. The interior design market in India is booming, with expectations for significant growth in the coming years. Despite the economic divide in the country, a wealthy consumer segment is emerging, which Nilaya Anthology aims to attract. Rajaram has curated the space carefully, balancing Indian craftsmanship with global design. While some believe the focus could have been solely on Indian products, Rajaram emphasizes the importance of showcasing both local and international craftsmanship. She invites visitors to take their time and enjoy the luxurious experience the showroom offers.
