Nineteen Naxalites surrender in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district
Nineteen Naxalites surrendered to security forces in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Monday. Nine of them had a combined bounty of ₹28 lakh. They cited disillusionment with Maoist ideology and internal conflicts as reasons for their decision. The surrendered individuals were active in the Andhra Odisha Border division and the Pamed area committee. Among them were Deva Padam and his wife, both senior members with rewards of ₹8 lakh each. This year, 84 Naxalites have surrendered in Bijapur, compared to 792 in the entire Bastar region last year. Each surrendered Naxalite received ₹25,000 and will be rehabilitated under government policy.
