Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced that the upcoming successor to the Switch will support backwards compatibility, allowing players to use their existing Switch games on the new device.
The company plans to reveal more details about the successor during the financial year ending March 2025. This move aims to enhance the appeal of the new device and ease the transition for current Switch users.
Nintendo has sold over 1.3 billion software units for the Switch, which has been on the market for eight years. However, hardware sales are slowing, prompting a 7% cut in the full-year sales forecast to 12.5 million units.
