A driver from Bridgeton, New Jersey, has been indicted for fleeing the scene of a crash that resulted in the death of his passenger. The incident took place nearly two years ago on June 17, 2023. The driver, Carlos M. Lopez-Zacarias, 25, allegedly left both his vehicle and his critically injured passenger behind after the accident. The passenger, identified as Ernesto Martinez-Zacarias, later died from his injuries. Documents from the court indicate that evidence for the case included interviews with other passengers who were present during the crash. A grand jury indicted Lopez-Zacarias last week on serious charges. These include knowingly leaving the scene of an accident that caused death and causing death while unlicensed. Currently, Lopez-Zacarias does not have an attorney listed in court records and is not in jail. He is set to appear in court again next week for a hearing related to the indictment.
