N.J. employee indicted for sending explicit messages to victims
A former New Jersey state employee has been indicted for allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to crime victims he was supposed to help. Guilherme H. Jamarino, 47, faces multiple charges, including second-degree official misconduct. Jamarino worked for the New Jersey Victims of Crime Compensation Office. This office helps crime victims, providing financial assistance for costs related to their victimization. His task was to support vulnerable individuals as they sought help. However, investigators found that Jamarino misused his position. He accessed the contact information of female victims and sent them inappropriate messages, including nude photos of himself, between December 2019 and July 2022. At least six women were identified as victims of his actions. Some of the victims have filed civil lawsuits against him. Jamarino was fired from his job on July 25, 2022, and received charges in April 2024. New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin expressed concern about how Jamarino's actions damaged the trust of victims seeking assistance.
