A man from Orange Township has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for shooting another man outside a ShopRite store in East Orange. The sentencing took place on Tuesday. Darienne Murray, 37, was found guilty in October of murder and related weapon charges. He was convicted for the shooting death of 37-year-old Melja Oliver in June 2022. Police discovered Oliver's body next to the ShopRite on Main Street. He died from a gunshot wound to the head. Assistant Prosecutor Jason Alterbaum expressed hope that the long sentence will discourage others from engaging in violent acts. Murray will be eligible for parole after serving 56 years of his sentence.
