NJ teen charged with murder in Paterson shooting

A teenager in New Jersey has been charged with murder following a shooting that took place on a city street corner. The shooting occurred in broad daylight on March 15, 2024, in Paterson. Eighteen-year-old Davon White, of Paterson, is one of three suspects involved in the shooting of 28-year-old Abel Angeles-Vergara. According to officials, the suspects were in a Hyundai Elantra when they stopped near the intersection of Market and Pennington streets around 5:20 p.m. The suspects then exited the vehicle and opened fire. Police reported that Angeles-Vergara was struck multiple times. He was taken to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he later died. White has been identified as one of the shooters. He was arrested on Monday and faces several charges, including first-degree murder and conspiracy. If found guilty, he could face life in prison. He is currently in custody and awaiting his first court appearance. The prosecutor's office is expected to request that he remain in jail until his trial.
