NNSA faces major employee cuts affecting nuclear security
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has seen over 130 employees leave or be fired due to budget cuts recommended by the Department of Government Efficiency. This includes 27 mass firings, affecting various roles critical to nuclear security. The cuts come amid rising global tensions and are part of efforts by former President Trump and Elon Musk to reduce government spending. Some of the affected employees held top-secret security clearances related to nuclear weapons. The Energy Department stated that most of the employees let go were in administrative roles and not essential to operations. It remains unclear if the NNSA will be able to rehire for these positions.
