No communal motive in Annamayya attack, police confirm
Police in Annamayya district stated that the attack on an APSRTC bus conductor in Nandalur on March 16 was not motivated by communal issues. They warned that anyone spreading hate or making provocative remarks about the incident could face legal action. The incident began when a group that included two women, a man, and a boy boarded the bus in Kadapa. One woman paid for tickets with a ₹500 note but did not receive the correct change. When she asked for her change, the conductor allegedly claimed she had paid only ₹200 and treated her disrespectfully. After the incident, the woman called the police and asked the bus driver to intervene. The conductor continued to humiliate her, prompting the woman to call her relatives for help. When the bus arrived in Nandalur, her relatives confronted the conductor, but some bystanders managed to calm the situation. The conductor was made to apologize, and no formal complaints were filed by either side. Police criticized the spread of videos from the incident, claiming they did not accurately represent what happened. Officials emphasized the importance of sharing correct information and warned against provocative comments on social media. The APSRTC Employees' Union condemned the attack and urged action against those responsible.
