No Dharavi land will be transferred to Adani Realty
State minister Ashish Shelar has denied claims that government land is being handed over to Adani Realty for the redevelopment of Dharavi. He stated on Friday that no government land will be transferred to the company. During a debate in the state assembly, Congress MLA Jyoti Gaikwad criticized the government. She accused it of arbitrarily declaring some slum-dwellers as ineligible and giving vast amounts of land to Adani. In response, Shelar clarified that the land is owned by the Dharavi Redevelopment Authority, which is a state-owned entity. He explained that about 50% of the land belongs to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), with other parts owned by state and central governments. The redevelopment project covers 430 acres, with 37% allocated for public spaces like playgrounds and parks. Shelar mentioned that the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited is managing the project. As part of this initiative, the state government will receive 20% of the profits. He also noted that landowners involved in slum rehabilitation will receive compensation based on 25% of the ready reckoner rate. Eligible slum-dwellers will get homes within Dharavi, while those deemed ineligible will be offered housing in other parts of Mumbai.
