No further Gaelic football rule changes expected this season
Eamonn Fitzmaurice, a member of the Football Review Committee (FRC), does not expect any more rule changes for the Gaelic football season unless something unusual occurs. Recent tweaks were made before the Allianz League's penultimate round. These included changing the three-v-three rule to four-v-three and updates related to the ending of games and card regulations. The latest round of matches was played under these updated rules. Now, goalkeepers can no longer serve as the extra attacker. Teams must also keep four players in their own half. However, goalkeepers like Niall Morgan and Rory Beggan still played important roles despite these changes. Armagh's goalkeeper Ethan Rafferty was replaced by Blaine Hughes, who is more traditional. Fitzmaurice acknowledged that some managers were frustrated with the rule adjustments. He understands their perspective, noting that they need to adapt their strategies with limited time before the championship. He stressed that the focus should now be on enjoying the games rather than debating rules. While some managers have expressed concern about the changes, players seem to be responding positively. Fitzmaurice believes the rules will help players show off their skills. He noted that players today are more skilled and dedicated than ever before. As the season progresses, he anticipates seeing more exciting and creative play.
